Introduction
to Employment Law (1 day)
This course is for management committee members, directors, managers and
those with responsibility for staffing or personnel issues. The course
looks at a number of key areas of employment legislation, knowledge of
which is essential for any organisation employing paid staff. The day
features both information giving sessions and a good deal of practical
work, with ample opportunity for discussion and exchange of views.

Contracts
of employment: how to write them, how to vary them (1
day or ½ day)
This one-day course is for management
committee members, directors, managers and those with responsibility for
staffing or personnel issues.
It will be of particular value to staff who need to draft new contracts
or review existing ones. Issues covered will include: how to ensure contracts
are accurate and fair but flexible; what to include and what not to include
in a contract; fair and enforceable suspension, dismissal, sickness and
absence clauses; the legally required content of written particulars of
employment and how they differ from contracts; when to vary contracts
of employment and how to do so legally.
The course
is also available as a half-day workshop concentrating on the basics of
drafting contracts.

Recruitment
and Dismissal (1 day)
This course is for organisations about to embark on the recruiting
procedure for the first time or for staff involved in recruitment who
want to refresh or update their knowledge. The course gives participants
the opportunity to consider the issues involved in: recruiting new staff;
ensuring equal opportunity recruitment; ensuring the "right"
person is recruited, but also what to do if the new recruit is not the
right person for the job.

to put the new procedures into practice using case studies and scenarios.

Managing
misconduct (1 day)
This course includes an update on the changes to disciplinary and grievance
procedures under the Employment Act introduced in 2004. The course is
particularly useful for employers or managers currently involved in an
ongoing dispute with an employee, or those who have experienced difficulties
in the past and are keen to avoid future problems. An assurance of confidentiality
is essential for participation on this course.

Discrimination
law update 2006

The last two years have seen a number of significant developments in discrimination
law and by the end of 2006 further changes will have been implemented.
This one day course gives participants an opportunity to understand in
detail the amendments to current discrimination legislation that have
been implemented. Participants will also gain an overview of forthcoming
changes, such as age discrimination regulations, and have the opportunity
to consider the implications for their organisation.

Age
discrimination: the new rules

With the introduction of the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations on
1 October 2006 all employers will be required to adopt the requirements
of the new Regulations with regard to many of their employment practices.
This
one-day course provides a detailed overview of the new Regulations and
highlights areas of particular concern for organisations, including recruitment,
retention, dismissal and retirement.

Discrimination Act for employers (1

This
one-day course is for management
committee members, directors, managers and those with responsibility for

The day provides an essential overview of the changes to the Disability
Discrimination Act e implemented in October 2004. The course covers: the
removal of the current small employers exemption from the act; the effect
of the changes on the recruitment, retention and opportunities offered
to disabled employees; ensuring policies and procedures are in line with
legal requirements.

day)
This half day workshop is for staff of organisations which offer their
services to individuals. The course offers participants the opportunity
to thoroughly explore the statutory requirements under the Act, particularly
from October 2004, when the Act required all service providers to consider
making reasonable adjustments to the physical features of their premises.
Participants will have the opportunity to consider the best ways for their
organisation to ensure they are complying with legislation.
